Media Award 2008 Results

Every year NADFAS promotes good communications through its Media Awards. The competition is open to all Member Societies, NADFAS Areas and the Australian Association. This includes volunteer groups within a Society or Area. As always, the standard of entries in both the printed and digital sections were extremely high, illustrating the wealth of talent within NADFAS and the judges certainly had a tough time reaching their final decision. The Awards were presented at this year's AGM in Liverpool.

This compliments our 'mention in despatches' for our Newsletter which was entered for the Printed media category in 2006 - not a bad record for a society only ten years old!

James Taylor's lecture entitled Ocean Liner Art

ADFAS met in October to hear James Taylor's lecture entitled Ocean Liner Art: Ships that Shaped Our Lives. It all really started with Isambard Kingdom Brunel whose dream was to extend the Great Western Railway line through to New York!

Titanic

The vision and engineering genius of "IKB" underpinned this global story of hopes and dreams, disasters and triumphs. The lecture featured a wide range of ships, including Great Britain and Great Western, Lusitania and Mauritania, Olympic and Titanic, as well as the shipping lines and personalities behind them, brought to life through historic and contemporary artworks.

Alton DFAS meets on the second Tuesday of most months. The next meeting is on 11th November and features Launce Gribbin lecturing on Andrea Palladio and the English Palladianism. November 2008 is the 500th anniversary of Andrea Palladio's birth. Anyone interested in joining Alton DFAS should come along to the November meeting which starts at 7.00pm in The Forum at Alton College.
